Perfect Sugar Cookies

Servings: Approximately 30 rolled and cut cookies



  1. Cream together the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add in the egg and vanilla; mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add in the flour, and mix only until combined (it's OK if it seems crumbly).
  4. Dump the dough out onto a clean work surface and shape into a disc to smooth it out. Cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. After the hour is up and the dough is chilled, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Get an ungreased cookie sheet (or two) ready to have on deck.
  6. Flour your work surface and rolling pin, then roll out the cookies to a thickness of 1/4".
  7. Cut out desired shapes with cookie or biscuit cutters, and transfer to the cookie sheet with a metal spatula.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes.
