About

Hello! I’m Cathy, and welcome to my blog!

I love to cook, but mostly I love to eat. Desserts.. chocolate.. mmm. I am not a professional chef, and have many things to learn in the kitchen. I intend to use this blog to share my successes (and failures!) with all of you out there in the tubes of the interweb.

I enjoy trying various ethnic cuisines (particularly Mexican, Chinese, Indian.. and more recently, Japanese). I also cook a lot of Italian style foods. One of my favorite things to do is to buy an interesting looking ingredient I have never heard of- then Google for ways to use it.

We live in West Virginia, however, so there aren’t always unique ingredients to be found. We don’t have a fancy gourmet farmer’s market. My grocery shopping usually consists of Wal Mart and Kroger. Thank goodness for the internet though- I can order just about anything I feel our local stores are missing.

I also enjoy gardening, which is very handy in the kitchen. I should say “gardening” in quotes because my garden consists of several pots on our condo’s porch and in front of windows inside. The foods/herbs I am currently growing include tomatoes, sweet basil, thyme, and rosemary. I would grow parsley and cilantro too, but it’s just too easy to drive to Wal-Mart and buy a bunch for under a dollar.

My Background
I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and just graduated in May with an M. B. A. I’m still looking for a job (which has a lot to do with the creation of this blog! Unemployment can get very boring!), but in the meantime, I’m just loving life.

I started cooking “for real” a few years ago at my (then) boyfriend’s apartment. We got married in August 2008, and recently moved into a new condo with a much larger kitchen than our old apartment (with about 3 times the counter space! EEEEE!!). There is also more cabinet and drawer space, which is great, because I’m addicted to kitchen gadgets and Fiesta dinnerware and pottery.

That’s it for now! But enough about me. Let’s go have dessert…
